Ultraviolet light, also known as UV light, is a big deal to your plants. UV light is a type of electromagnetic radiation that comes from natural sunlight. Your plants don’t always need to be outdoors to benefit from UV light, however. Indoor UV grow lights can also create these rays artificially, making it possible for growers to give their indoor plants the same benefits as those grown outside.
UV light activates a plant’s natural defence mechanisms, producing a sort of sunscreen to protect itself from the damaging light. Some plants can produce as much as 15 different defence proteins with exposure to UV. As the amount of UV increases, so does the production of defence proteins. The presence of these proteins can enhance a plant’s smell, colour, taste and resistance to disease. Plants grown indoors without exposure to UV can lack these enhanced benefits.
Please Note: LED lights produce less heat than traditional Metal Halide and High-Pressure Sodium resulting in less heat and more light. This, however, does not make LEDs more heat resistant and these LED strips would need external cooling when used in hot environments.
